Hair implantation is a process of extracting hair follicles from the donor area and implanting them onto the area suffering from hair loss. In its simplest form, this is a transplant of hair follicle, involving procedural intervention in two main areas: back of the neck, also referred to as donor area that covers the area between two ears. Hair intensity and hair quality in this area directly affects the final quality of hair implant. The second area is transfer area, suffering from hair loss and thus requiring hair implantation. The reason hair follicles are extracted from the donor area is that the hair in this area do not fall thanks to genetic factors. The follicles transferred from the donor area, thus, stay in the transfer area for life.
In other words, hair implant is, subject to compliance with proper rules and procedures under supervision of a certified team of physicians and healthcare staff, once-in-a-lifetime process. The right patient for is the one whose donor area is sufficiently fertile and who has no serious health condition.
Follicles from another person are not used in the hair implant procedure, nor does it involve transplant of artificial hair follicle. This is why your donor area matters the most. An unqualified physician may do harm to the follicles during the transplantation.
Additionally, failure to secure homogeneity during the extraction may lead to unpleasant appearances; in such instances, the harm may not be recovered because hair is extracted along with the follicles. As a result, no new hair will ever grow in the area of extraction. This is why it is extremely important that a qualified and certified team performs the entire procedure. Two major methods are employed in the hair implantation: follicular unit extraction (FUE) and direct hair implantation (DHI).

This method allows maximum extent of implantation in one session without having to comply with a certain limitation on the number of grafts, depending on the nature of the donor area. In patients with a strong donor area, this may amount to 5,500.

Another technique used in the hair implantation is the DHI method. In this method, the hair follicles are individually integrated to medical pens, known as Chois, then transferred to the transfer area without having to create channels. The healing duration is shorther in this method. Number of follicles that may be transplanted in one session in this method is between 3,500 and 3,750.
It would be wrong to prefer one method over the other as both feature advantages and disadvantages of their own. It should be recalled that the type of method to be employed is determined in line with the needs of the patient. For this reason, it is imperative to identify the treatment method that fits best for the patient.
